Chronology:
19 January 2010: The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration confirmed pandemic influenza A/H1N1 in a pig farm in Jutland.
14 January 2010: The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration confirmed pandemic influenza A/H1N1 in a pig farm on Bornholm.
9 January 2010: The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration confirmed pandemic influenza A/H1N1 in the two pig farms on Zealand.
The two affected farms are a nursery pig herd with 3200 nursery pigs and a sow herd with 750 sows, 250 slaughter pigs and 2400 nursery pigs. The nursery herd is located near Jystrup in the municipality Ringsted and the sow herd is located near Tølløse in the municipality Holbæk.
8 January 2010: The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration is presently examinating two suspicions of pandemic influenza A H1N1 i two pig farms on Zealand.
This is done due to the National Veterinary Institute has detected of influenza A (H1N1) virus in samples from the two herds. The detected virus is identical to the influenza type presently circulating in the human population.
Due to the fact that the two herds are independent, new samples from both herds are examined in order to rule out possible contamination from the personel in the laboratory.
If the result of the first samples is confirmed, then it is the first occurence of this type of influenza in pigs in Denmark.
Official restrictions have been placed on the involved farms, which will imply that pigs cannot be moved to other pig farms.
