The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration is responsible for prevention and control of animal diseases in Denmark. The veterinary disease control system plays an important part in this. The purpose of the alert system is to: Prevent the occurrence of infectious animal diseases in Denmark. Control and eradicate the diseases as quickly and effectively as possible when there is an outbreak.

The publication "Animal Health in Denmark, 2010" reviews the developments in the field of animal health in Denmark in 2010.
The Annual Report includes statistical information and overview of existing animal disease surveillance programmes that may be useful for reference purposes.
In addition, the report provides details on the following main topics:

  1. Bluetongue, as Denmark in 2010 was recognised as 'lower risk zone' for bluetongue serotype 8 by the European Commission;
  2. Bovine virus diarrhoea, as the infection was diagnosed in a Danish dairy cattle farm in 2010;
  3. Atypical scrapie, as two cases of atypical scrapie were diagnosed in Denmark in 2010;
  4. Low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI), as LPAI was diagnosed in two Danish flocks of mallards in 2010.
