Labelling
The purpose of identification labelling of food products is to allow the authorities to trace the origin of the products, and to check that the products have been produced at an approved/registered establishment or factory vessel in a third country approved for export to the Community.
The authorities must be able to trace the origin of the products to check that they do not originate from a country or an area on which import embargos have been placed or to which other specific restrictions apply.
Therefore, it is very important that the labelling is done in such a way that the products in question cannot easily change their identity.
