Border inspection control of the birds
Birds from third countries must enter Denmark/the EU through an approved Border Inspection Post. In Denmark there are two Border Inspection Post for this purpose: the Border Inspection Post at Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup and the Border Inspection Post at Billund Airport.
At the Border Inspection Post a document and identity chesks take place.
If the checks reveal that the birds do not meet the requirements, the competent authorities decides in consultation with theOfficial Veterinarian:
- to return the birds to its country of origin; or
- to isolate the birds under official control for the time necessary for it to meet the health requirements, at the expense of the owner or the natural person responsible for it; or
- as a last resort, to put the birds down, without financial compensation, where its return or isolation in quarantine cannot be envisaged.
